I need a lcd. cml174 seems to be the perfect answer , the only thing is it's not in any of my stores, and I'd really like to see it and touch it before buying it.
I've heard the samsung 171p looks great. Did anyone try any -->games<-- on it , or even better, does anyone actually have one? like... is it worth gettin my butt to the store and buying it or should i just order the hitachi?

and then what's the deal with the subpixels? i dont wanna get any dead pixels/subpixels! If i order it from an online store and it has dead pixels, i can return it right? i've heard monitorsdirect has a "no dead pixel" policy, but i cant order from em cuz i'm up north in canada. Is it possible that i get stuck with a lcd that has a dead pixel? cuz that would be a real b*tch.!

anyways, i hope you guys can gimme some advice on those 2 monitors. It's so confusing. there should be one monitor that everybody knows is the best at the moment, but that's just me.

thanks in advance

I was torn between the same two monitors for the same reasons as you. Go for the 174, you will never look back. Great monitor. Try monitors direct, you won't be sorry.
Missed your Canadian address, sorry.try to get it from somewhere.

Mwave ships to Canada and has it.

I'm in Canada and bought the 171P in early November at Compusmart for $1199 plus tax. I bought it in person, not by mail. I run it in DVI mode from an ATI 9000 pro. I'm not a gamer, sorry. I have read mixed reviews of its suitability for games and fast action scenes. It has a .25 ms rise time. Personally, I love it. It is a 100% improvement over my former 17" crt. A word of advice if I may, because I don't want you to end up disapointed: don't buy a monitor that you have not actually viewed in person, if you have any other choice. Oh, it has no dead pixels.

25ms, not .25. Also, given that it uses PVA, it's prone to the bad response time in greys.

I have the 151P. Also bought it cuz i couldnt get my hands on a 152T or 172T where i live...ofcourse the Hitachi is even unheard of...

Looks beautiful...touch buttons are awesome...Zero dead pixels...no ghosting in games...well...a little...but u see..GHOSTING is a very subjective matter..me personally..i dont notice it..

Extremely sharp in 2D..colors are beautiful...but as Flame said..and i guess thats in all lcds..when it comes to really dark shades..u cant make them out properly.
Tried it with
Warcraft: awesome
AOM
UT2003
Mafia: wow!!
Jedi outcast
SOF 2
Hitman 2: wow!!!
NOLF2

rarely see ghosting

by the way..the 151P is XGA...the 171P is SXGA..so i guess..but dont take my word for it..the 171P is even better in image quality..

Hum, i see... In the end, i guess i'll go check out the samsung in person. I'm a gamer, yes, but i think, like oymd, i won't notice/care that much about the ghosting as long as it doesn't affect my game too much. And then if i have a defective pixel, i can go and bring it to the store myself vs dealing with emails and phone calls etc. it is a bit pricey though.... but i guess it's worth it for the eye care, if u know what i mean.
