I've been battling this problem on and off. I have 6gbs installed in my rig and it only shows 3.99gb usuable. if i let it run for alil then restart all 6 will show up however that is anoyying and it should work on first boot.

Problem: 3.99 gb usuable out of 6gb

my computer: i7 950, mobo evga ftw3, 6gb corsair dominator, windows 7 64bit, coolmaster 212+, 850watt, gtx 470

steps ive done so far:
1) Ive run the memory test through windows and it passes 100% every time.
2) looked at my computer setting and my installed memory says 6gb but 3.99 usuable
3)startup>boot>advanced>maxed memory is unchecked.
4)made sure im running windows 7 64 bit
5)checked my cpu for bent pins. all looked fine
6)loosened my cpu cooler/reseated it plenty of times
7) swapped ram sticks

Any other ideas?

Press Windows key, and in the Search Field put in 'MSCONFIG' *without quotes.

Go into Boot tab, and press Advanced Options.

You will see Number of processors.. uncheck that if you can, and MAKE sure you uncheck Maximum Memory. Click OK to both windows and restart! :)

You are welcome! I also had the same problem where only 4.99gb would be recognized.

ok i think the problem is that the ram isnt running at the right speed. its supposed to be 1.65v ddr3 1600mhz+ and its only 530mhz (ddr3 1061).

could that be the problem? and how would i make it 1600..since my mobo can handle it

ive enabled the ram test and it shows no problems but still posts with 3.99gb. also if you read that entire post. they say its for 32bit os's and theres no reason to use it for 64bit. and some say they dont have it on 64bit so..hmm
