Hi everybody, anyway I was just looking around the refurbished section of microcenter.com and I came across these processors. I plan on upgrading to a C2Q in a year or two so I'm wondering if I could at least game with these for the time being.

Note to self when linking to Micro Center always link specific products. Does the links work now?

What do you have for a motherboard. Pentium D's aren't the best chips in the world.

Full system specs if you can will help.

Yes they do. I can not recommend buying a Pentium D unless it is replacing something a lot worse.

Dell Dimension E520
Dell mobo based off of G965
Graphics card: Geforce 9400 GT
RAM: 4GB
OS: 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Under your forum options in there should be a tab where you can type in your PC's configuration and it'll show up when somebody wants more info on you.
@rolli: like a Pentium D 820? This is an interim solution as I plan on getting a Radeon HD 6770(if it ain't a rebadged 5770) later this year and want a slightly better CPU to go with it.

For the price difference between them the D945 would be the best upgrade although not a massive one and hardly worth it.

That is ddr2 right, not too familiar with that board. You might be best served buying a 50 dollar to 75 dollar new motherboard, and drop a new Celeron or a new Amd Sepron in it.

Sell the old board and chip, and walla, cheap upgrade.

E520s use a BTX board so I can't simply switch mobos(if I could I would have switched to a H55 board by now with an i7 to boot). Rolli are you sure I won't get much because I plan on playing mostly older games(MOH: Airborne, SW: Battlefront 2, Empire at War, Universe at War) and using the quad later to play the newer games(Bioshock 1/2, World in Conflict, Hawx) that support dual and quad core processing.

You will get some but I am not sure how much there is 20%+ clock speed difference and more cache so maybe a 25% performance increase. Being a dell overclock is out of the question so this might be your only upgrade path.

Thanks for the help guys, I plan to get the 945 on Saturday along with some AS5. Like I said this won't be a permanent CPU I plan to get a Q6700 once I'm old enough for a debit card and an ebay account(maybe the price will fall below $180 who knows).
