Odd FPS issue

I own two 5870s and every game runs fine, 60 fps blah blah. Whenever I start youtube and alt tab to listen to a quick song, my fps drops about 20. If I close it.. it goes back up to 60. Any ideas?

  1. What CPU do you have? If you have a dual core and a game which can run on both cores, then listening to YouTube might cause some problems.
  2. i7 930 @ 3.8ghz
    6gb ram
samsung f3 hard drive or whatever it is called

yeah, don't start youtube while gaming :kaola:

actually sounds like a driver issue or the game's ability to use CF, instead of hardware. just for curiosity, disable one card and then start youtube while playing the same game. if your FPS is more stable, it's the driver/game for CF tying up too much of the CPU process ability.
  4. anyone know anything else regarding this? It's seriously only flash or youtube or something..

two 5870s destroy everything else :p
  5. Its because your cards are using the clocks for watching movies something like 400/1200 even though your playing a game, I noticed this when going from one 5850 to crossfire.

I don't know a fix, just don't listen to youtube clips whilst gaming. :/
  6. What driver are you using. The newer ones have the card fall to idle less.
