Excuse my lack of knowledge, I know just enough to be dangerous. I am looking at two systems which are similarly priced. One has an I3-530 processor with 6GB of DDR3 1333 RAM. The other has a Quad Core Q9550 processor with 4GB of DDR2 800 RAM. I am not a gamer so this is no issue. I use Microsoft Office a lot along with the usual email and web browsing. I have other processes that are continually running such as Internet Security software, real time backup of files to an external HD, and Voip phone service. I find that my current PC gets pretty slow when all of these are running at the same time. Which system would provide me with more processing power? Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated

well since you don't game, i would say go for the q9550 it has more cores and will give you better processing power, even though the i3 has better microarch, it only has two cores

so go with the q9550 and 4 gigs of RAM

Isn't more RAM better for computers that have applications running at the same time?
