Hello gents...I'm looking to upgrade my cpu but decided to just give the major components to my friend and basically start from scratch. The parts I'm keeping is my Antec 300 case, hd, cd, and Corsair 450w PSU link below.

The parts I'm looking to get is the mobo/cpu/gpu/ram. I don't intend to spend more than $500 and don't really care if its AMD or Intel and I also have no intentions to crossfire or SLI.

I do lots of creative suite work but nothing too hardcore. My old E5200 did fine with an HD 4770 graphics card. My only issue was gaming because I'm using a 30" dell monitor. This upgrade is definitely more for gaming. I was looking at a build with the Athlon II x3 Rana 3.0 ghz chip and put the majority of the money into a decent graphics card. Please send me suggestions. Much thanks!

GPU : $240 GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi)

Cheaper option : $155 Radeon HD 5770

CPU + Mobo : $192 AMD Athlon II X4 640 + uATX mobo.

or, $207 THIS ATX COMBO with sli (not true X16 / X16 though).

RAM : $105 G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB)

PSU : $70 CORSAIR 650W

EDIT: ---

TOTAL : 155 + 192 + 105 + 70 = $522.

If you wanna save 20 bucks, go with a cheaper DDR3 1333 RAM with a higher cas latency (CL9)

Thanks for the list. I was thinking about these combos instead and try unlocking the 4 the core if I needed it. I doubt I will though. I do plan on overclocking. I most likely would go with the micro board since I doubt I'll ever crossfire. Then I could splurge a bit more on the video card and get a gtx460 or a hd5850. Would this be a better idea? Especially since I'm trying to power a 30" monitor.

I'd be looking more in terms of the PhenomIIx3 720 Black Edition and an 870 motherboard. If you're overclocking you'd replace the stock cooler anyways.
