External HD advice please

Hi

Ive got a WD hard drive 2 partitions now I previously used it on xp no problems, new laptop has windows 7 now when I try to remove drive safely I don’t think windows properly disconnects it so its caused a problem with hd now (I used to get a format required message every time I connected to laptop but now for some reason the laptop can access hd again)

I can see the files and access some of the files on HD, the others just hang forever

So I tried copying files from HD to another external some copied over now with the rest of the files get a parameter invalid message. (Problem is with both partitions)

How can I fix this so that all the files are accessible?

I would try running chkdsk on the drive to see if you can fix the issue. Once you get the files off, and if that is a problem try using Recuva ( http://www.piriform.com/recuva ) a freeware program that is good for file recovery, I would reformat it.

thanks for th advice i downloaded Icare recovery software it has a few optionslost partition advance recovery deep scan recovery and format recovery.

my hd only shows up on the deep scan recovery option and it shows up only as 1 hd not 2 partitions is that ok?

also its 1TB so i assume this will take a very long time
