Networked NTFS drive not seen by Windows 98SE

I am running Windows 98SE on a network. When I hook up an external hard drive with NTFS partitions to the Win98 machine via USB, I can access the drive. When I plug the same drive into a USB on my router my win98 machine cannot access it. Is there a remedy?

if you have a XP computer, you can connect it to that, share the driver, and you will be able to read the data.

    Thanks for the reply.

I am running Windows 98SE and it CAN read NTFS on an external drive. However, the Windows 98SE computer cannot read the same drive when it is connected to a router via USB. An XP computer can. I suspect something to do with Win 98 networking capabilities...
