Depends on what core 2 and how high it's clocked.

it's an e6850. What would be better for gaming, this core 2 duo or a quad core...I only plan on gaming. And with the core 2duo, how much of a performance increasde will I see compared to a pentium d 3.4 ghz(which I have right now and lags on games)

Huge difference over the Pentium D, Huge...

Clock for clock the first core 2's were something like 25 percent faster than the D's, or maybe it was 40 percent, don't remember exactly.

The quad would be better in gaming most cases, as long as you can give it a small overclock to around 3.0ghz or higher.

9800 GT is not good for gaming. i would say 3 Ghz duo core won't bottleneck your 9800 GT .

First of all, your window is VISTA. Vista alone take 1 GB of your RAM. You have only 1 GB left to play game. Which game were you playing? FPS game release in 2009 +? you need a better graphic card if you lag when you play game and extra memory .

Actually it's two 9800gt, so that is the equivalent of around a gtx280 IIRC. I agree that an extra 2gb of RAM would benefit you.

Kimy's right in that you would benefit by getting more ram, vista is a memory hog.

@ Kimy 2 9800GT's will perform similar or a little better than a single gtx 260
