Hello, i just needed advice on what computer upgrade i should choose, galaxy gts250 or 2gb ram. I want to play new games at relatively high resolutions. The gts 250 will cost $100 with psu, and the 2gb ram will cost $40.

System Specs:
1GB RAM
AMD Athlon 3800+
Nvidia 6100 nForce 405
20" Monitor

Thanks for the help

It's not even close... the video card for sure. Just make sure your motherboard has the right slots for it.

RAM will help the CPU for games, VC will help with higher resolutions.

If your system lags at all, RAM. If you want better displays, VC.

If you have to choose then get the GTS 250. You really should have at least 2GB of RAM if you want to game, and you may want to think about upgrading, or at least overclocking your CPU. of course, if you have a socket 939 board that's a bit harder to do :D .

Go for a cheaper card(9800GT or HD5670 perhaps) plus at least 1gb more ram. 2gb is really the minimum you would want to run current games.
What is your current power supply? The HD5670 is quite low power and might be ok on it. There are low power versions of the 9800GT as well.

don't waste your money on the GTS250 or that add-on PSU. with a single core CPU and 1GB of RAM the GTS250 will be severely bottlenecked. By the time you rebuild the PC the GTS250 will be outdated. I would get 2GB of RAM and an ATI 4670 or 5670. Either one will run the 300w PSU.

To replace your cpu with something decent for current games you will likely need to replace your motherboard as well.
Ct is right. If you can't basically afford to rebuild the computer right now then just get a cheap video card and another gig of ram. The cards he suggested are actually a little overpowered for you CPU imo(i didn't realize it was single core earlier.) Something like the HD4650 or 9500GT should be quite cheap and appropriate. I would get one of those and another gig of ram. A lot of current games wont be playable(mainly because of the processor) but it will be much better than the onboard graphics you are using now and will handle games from a few years ago well.
This way you wont spend much now yet you'll have a system that can handle some modest gaming to tide you over until you can afford a new build.

That's $237 after rebates, $287 before. It will allow you to play any game rather well on a 20" monitor. The processor should OC easily and well. The PSU is very high quality. With the ram you have now you'' have 2gb which will get you by but look to add another 2 more when you can.
For $33 more you can get a Athlon II x3 that can very likely unlock into a x4;

As an alternate for the video card this HD4850 will give you similar performance;

It is $25 less before rebate but $5 more after.
