Hello, my sound has been going on and off for months, but seems to have finally pulled a hissy fit and stopped completely. I have done everything I can find including installing updated versions of the Realtek sound card, windows updates, using the run command services.msc but everything is as it should be except i keep getting the "There are no active mixer devices available" etc etc message, and when i go onto sound hardware everything is greyed out. Please help before i surgically removed me face.

More about : active mixer devices

It sounds like the hardware died. Disable it in the bios and buy a cheap soundcard just make sure you get one which matches an availble slot in your computer. Either PCI or PCIe; they are not interchangable.
