The Sony amp dosent get the signal from the PC.

The optical output from the pc looks ok at the pc end but at the other end of the cable that I plug into my amp it's very dim, I've tried three different cables but it still the same, the amp cannot find it. The sound card is Realtek HD audio, what can I do as no signal is being picked up by the amp, how can you boost the optical signal?
What are the options.

Hello Popatim

Yes the optical output is enabled and set as an output, not sure what else I can do with the Realtek HD Audio, limited options ... I might buy a new card and see what I can do with that.

If your using windows7, go into control panel>hardware and sound>sound

a menu will pop up and there you'll see the audio devices outputting sound. Choose the optical audio device as default by right clicking it and setting to default ouput device.

I had this problem when passing audio through the HDMi cable when i finally realized (and a small test) that i had to select the HDMI as default device for the audio.

Hope this helps. BTW welcome to the forums, newcomer!
