Storage problem

Hello,
i have a problem which is that i am finding i have no space on my laptop so i searched files to delete and found one called windows.old, this was taking up 164gb of space, what can i delete from this? i tried doing a clear up from this file and it said if i delete certain files windows might not run properly. I have a sony vaio model number VGN-FW21L?

Did you upgrade your copy of Windows at some point? If you did, this directory contains your old Windows files. You should be able to delete it.

was 2nd hand from friend at work?

Ask your friend. If Windows was upgraded, C:\WINDOWS.OLD will contain the old c:\windows directory structure.
