I have a Dell Studio 540 with a Q8200 CPU. It won't support XP mode in Windows 7 but the Q6600 will. Can I simply pull out the Q8200 and replace it with the Q6600?
It will work with q6600
You can find here what CPU will support "XP mode" but i think you know that... http://ark.intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?familyID=28398
you will need pro or ultimate ver of windows 7, but i think you got it covered as well.
Good Luck mate
Thanks to all who replied. It appears to be a popular consensus that I can simply pull out the Q8200 and put in a Q6600 to achieve XP mode capability in Win 7 Pro. If there is any other tweaking or something I need to do I'd appreciate some insight. Looking for the cheapest way to get xp mode working under Win 7 Pro. Would be nice to get a lower power cpu like the Q95XX I suppose but cost is unfortunately a major concern. Thanks again all.
