Tri GTX260 SLi > GTX470 SLi + Physx?

I am currently in the process of selling my current GPUs (Asus GTX 260 216). I have 3 of these, I have sold 2 of them so far on ebay for £110.00 + £8.00 each (Approx $200).

When I'm running GTX 470 SLI, what would be a decent card for the Physx? Is it worth keeping my last GTX 260 and relegating it to Physx in this new configuration, or flog it for another £118 and buy a new, lower end G2xx series card?

Issue is, I could clearly do with the funds this 3rd GTX 260 is going to get me to help with the purchase of the new GTX 470s (Though I can manage without it).

Suggestions please.

OP: Firstly, SLI 470s alone should definitely do a lot better than even three 260s. Nice upgrade

As for PhysX, well firstly I'm curious what your mobo supports (in terms of PCIe lanes). Given that you had triSLI, I'm going to assume it's a 1366 so I guess that's 16x/16x/16x? Or is it 16x/8x/8x? Well, anyway, whatever it is if it's at least 8x on the third lane a GT240 is the absolute most you'll need right now. My GT 240 on just a 4x lane is usually less than 25% (Cryostasis, Mirror's Edge, Metro 2033, Dark Void) and only in one game has it been truely stressed, and that's in Batman AA where it one time reached 80% usage (This is viewing the usage via MSI Afterburner).

In FluidMark, the utmost usage I can get out of my card is 83% as a limitation of the 4x bandwidth. Therefore, if you're on an 8x lane you should not at all need more than a GT240.

MB is an Asus P6T6 WS Revolution, So 16x16x16x. (BTW this upgrade is costing me sod all - Selling 3x260 and my Triple Head2Go - covers all the costs involved). Im actually making a profit on the 260s, (bought in Sept 09 for £120, selling on ebay for £125).

Think i will go for 2x470s now, sell all the 260s, and either pick up a 240 or leave it alone and buy a 470 in 6months for another tri-sli setup. Lucky i have a Coolermaster 1100w UCP PSU, so i can get any mix and match of GPUs currently availalbe.

Sounds good! To be honest, SLI 470s will handle PhysX just fine in any game except maybe Batman so I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's not like going over 60 fps does anything for you anyway.

Awesome setup, 470sli, I would sell the third 260, and see how the 470sli setup performs before getting third card though!

In the UK, the biggest etailers are scan.co.uk and ebuyer.co.uk, ebuyer has them at £170 and scan at £170.

Tho i will miss the insance perf/pound that the GTX260 216 gave, if only they still sold them at their rock bottom prices, you wouldnt see people recomending anything else in the 'build' section of this website for sub $1000 rigs!

All i need to find the cash for are the 2 full cover blocks, the extra 240 rad and the time to fking build this machine again.

someone get over here and rebuild it for me! took 20hrs for its last full build (3weeks ago - new chassis)
