I think I'm going to upgrade from 260 sli as soon and I had a few questions.

A single 480 will run better then 260 in sli at 1920x1200 right?

If I go with a single 480, would it be a good idea to use one of the 260s for physx?

-Off topic, i have the ASUS II Extreme is the III that much better, and is the III better than the E760? Reviews seem to say it is, but I've been using ASUS for a decade.

Hmm, I might have to look into it now. But three 260's one fit on the Rampage II will they? =/

EDIT - Err guess Its a case problem.. I was thinking about upgrading to the 800D anyway.

stick with the 2 X 260's. unless you're trying to bend space/time, you really don't need much more for a while, you have a very capable setup...

Is there something that you're doing that requires more GPU horsepower?

I agree with psycho, just get another GTX260, there very powerful cards and SLI scales extremely well (better than ATI crossfire)

i agree, i have 2 x 4870 1GB which are a tad slower in games and it can run almost all games maxed out just fine @ 1080P (Metro 2033 brings everything to its knees)

Just figured I should at least start thinking about DX11 at some point.

i wouldn't worry about it, as all of the games will also have a DX10 code path (and a lot will have a DX9 as well for the XP users)

DX11 is certainly something to consider but right now (and probably for a little while more) DX11 is not really proven to be advantageous. If considering DX11, then sell the 260's and get a 480, it'll ensure DX11 capabilities later down the road and then add another 480 if needed or if you have the millions to spare, LOL :sarcastic:

Im doing the same thing right now, selling 3x260s and my Matrox Triple Head and buying 2x470s.

This will net me about 5% performance at 0 cost (just bags of hassle). But will allow for DX11 (max via TH2G is DX9),

Also gives me the option of adding a 3rd 470 in 6months if I want/need more GPU power, as I have no options for it with 6PCIe slots filled with 3x260s.

Yeah that is kind of what I was planning on doing, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't downgrading at all first :p

May want to keep one of those 260's for Physx if you play any Physx-capable games, otherwise, just stick with one GTX480 and OC it a little, it should be a little better than the 260's in SLI. Later on down the road if you add another 480 for SLI, do not worry about dedicated Physx as that 480 SLI should handle the big bang if it should happen again.
