Is a higher and supported MHz memory automatically recognized?

I'm upgrading memory on an older machine.

The motherboard supports "Dual-channel DDR2 800/667MHz memory, 8GB. Max". It currently has 2x512mb-DDR2-667 memory and I plan to upgrade to 2x1024mb-DDR-800 memory.

If I put in the 800MHz memory, is it automatically recognized? The motherboard manual didn't mention a need to change any settings. This is the mother board (www.foxconnchannel.com/product/Motherboards/detail_overview.aspx?ID=en-us0000318)

Yes it should reconize it but it would run at the slower 667 speed.
