SB = South bridge. Its a chip on the motherboard. All AMD SBs from the 750 up have ACC. This is what unlocks cores. So yes. You need ACC, which is found on the 750 and newer SBs.

Thee older SB710 will unlock as well as some Nvidia boards, I think Nvidia calls it nvcc (or just plain old "core unlocker") and ASRock calls it ucc.

A while ago I asked somethin' similar, but these guys said that there were a few other things that unlock cores. I have a AMD Athlon II X3 440 @ 3.3ghz. =D

unless you plan to video encode (then you should have gotten an i7) there is no difference between the athlon II x3 440 and x4 in gaming. By the time games really need a 4th core (won't be until the new consoles come out) then both the x3 and x4 would be outdated anyways.

x3 & x4 in benchamrks, every game but dawn of war (10% increase which is nothing in real life) has the exact same FPS

I know that the 4th core wont really make a diference, but i would still like it wouldn't you? I never really got an answer.

your question was answered, your board does not have ACC and 4745454b stated your SB chip is too old and does not support ACC.

hostile, your not wasting our time but you seem to have a lot of buyers remorse with your posts both on the CPU and GPU forum. enjoy what you have and don't worry about missing out on stuff you don't have.

I have only bought the CPU not the GTX 460. Ima savin' up. I just wanted to tweak the CPU as much as I could to get the best bang for my buck.
