I think amd phenom x2 555 black edition (3.2 ghz) will be better for gaming. Your quad core is not bad but it is best for multitasking.

Funny thing is that was my intial cpu last week but too many people have convinced me to go more than two cores.

you can unlock the Phenom II x555 dual core to a quad core and have a black edition quad core.

That is not a sure thing sir. It all depends on the luck of the draw there. Here I have a quad core guaranteed and can try to overclock it.

6 mb Level 3 cache in phenom 555 x2 be give you extra frame per second . But athlon have not L3 cache. And phenom can unlock core then you can get 3.6 ghz which athlon can't.

Multithreaded applications are coming more and more. Doesn't unreal tournament 3 utilize quad core? I doubt the phenom x2 555 beats it there.

Keep in mind that the Athlon II X4 should be highly overclockable due to the lack of a L3 cache. I might think about upgrading the video card a bit if possible.

Also, according to the processor it would not take 1600 so the RAM is now 1333.

I have see in a benchmark result that phenom 555 x2 beat athlon x4 (crysis). But i see when avg virus scan was running and same time game running then athlon x4 beat phenom(athlon 30 fps and phenom 9 fps). So if you going for multitasking go for athlon x4 . or not, go to phenom 555 x2 be. No doubt.

Yeah, true that. A lot of the time I probably will prefer not to have to shut off every application before I start a game.

Your gpu is fine but why you are not looking for sapphire vaporx 5770 hd. It will less noise and run cool just same price or 5-10$ extra.

I was just slightly concerned about the GPU. I was pretty happy with the price and the fact that its a Radeon HD 5770 but I have been checking out some of the reviews for it and am thinking perhaps I should go for a card that has had a better success rate. What do you guys think?

I would go for the Nvidia GTX 460 or the Radeon HD 5850. If you can fit one of these in your budget it would definitely be worth the price difference.
