Will this work

I have a laptop with a 500gb hdd and windows 7 on it. the hard drive is http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hitachi-HTS545050b9A300-Inch-500GB-SATA/dp/B001V9LKLW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1352745763&sr=8-2
can i use this harddrive in a desktop build as i dont have the money to buy a new operating system.

First, that is not within the scope of the OS license.

That said, it is unlikely that a laptop install will be able to load drivers that will work with the desktop components. You will probably get a BSOD.

Some will say you can never start up with a different motherboard, but I find that you often can with Windows 7, but from a laptop to a desktop is fairly unlikely.
