Upgrading from a 9600gso to a 9800 GTX worth it?

I saw at Tiger Direct here in Canada they have the GeForce 9800 GTX+ Video Card - 512MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV for $99 with rebate. Last year I purchased the Geforce GSO 9600 with mixed results using After Effects. Just wondering if this is a step up or a lateral move...

Also, if someone has a better card at roughly the same price, please let me know that as well.

Thanks in advance.

More about upgrading 9600gso 9800 worth
  1. It should be quite a set up.
I'm guessing around a 40-60% increase in performance.

This 4850 should get you the same performance in games and is only $89 (you save $10).

  2. newegg.com doesn't ship to Canada. At their canadian site, their cheapest 4850 is $95 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125238&cm_re=4850-_-14-125-238-_-Product

I'd suggest getting a GT 240 like this http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125304 for $85, although it is very comparable to a 9800 (maybe slightly faster due to new architecture)

If you have a Memory Express in your city, they've got some good deals going on right now.
$65 GT 240 with mail in rebate http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX27164(ME).aspx
    $120 GT 250 (good card) http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX27367(ME).aspx

Or on ATI side of things you've got some deals like
    $95 5670 http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX27198(ME).aspx

Personally I"d go with the 5670 or GT 250 for the ~$100 range.
