I have a Toshiba Tecra 500CDT laptop in which a standard 3Com 10/100 LAN PC
card works fine.
Now, I want to change to Wireless. When I plug in the Linksys Wireless-B PC
card, its power light does not come on. I've had some software installation
problems, but shouldn't the power light come on even with no specific
software loaded?

It's not a power light, it's a "link" light, and it won't come on until
the card is initialized and recognized by the OS.
Do you get an indication that a PC card has been detected?
[Add hardware wizzard starts, and/or "twin tone" of PC card & USB
plug-and-play device detected]
