Upgrading to 2.5'' SSD

I currently have a Satellite P875-S7200 Laptop with a Hitatchi 750gb Serial ATA HDD.
I was hoping to remove this drive and use it as an external in a HD dock for general files and run the OS and essential applications off a SSD Sata 3 or perhaps a PCIe SSD. But I'm a little bewildered whether or not a PCIe SSD upgrade is even possible?
