I am Selling my 4870 on ebay.
I am not trying to be like a troll.Even though i dont know what that means. But i am downgrading to another gpu.
I just want to know should i get the 8series or the 9series but if i can aford the gtx i will get that.

But just want to know what would be the best out of the 8 and 9 series.I dont do hardcore gaming.I already know that the gtx kills all of the 8 and 9 series but i will only get that if i can afford it but right know i dont think i can.But yeah which one should i get.And also my card is for sale on ebay and i am willing to trade cards. Also i only had it for a month. And it is the Toxic 1gb editon.

For the reason i am downgrading is that the cards is to much for my system.yes i said it.I dont really need all that power. And i dont like ati drivers.
Also my Screen res is 1440x900 but some of the time a game at lower res

Thanks

An 8800GTS 512, 9800GTX(+) or GTS250 would be about the same as the 4870 but if you could get a GTX260 for it, that would be an upgrade and anything else is a downgrade.

Yeah the OP has a Toxic card, so temps aren't a concern.

An how is a 8800GTS the same as a 4870   Deluded much...

I said it was about the same, 8800GTS, 9800GTX and GTS250 are all the same, so...

And in F.E.A.R 2 it's actually faster!

Still think I'm deluded?

Yeah I do actually, The 4870 wins by a considerable amount in 3 of those games and only loses by a tiny amount in FEAR 2

Oh and thats the Overclocked GTS250

And a 8800GTS isn't as fast as a GTS250...

Here's one showing the difference between a 9800GTX and an 8800GTS :-

And one showing the difference between the 9800GTX and the 4870.

I get why the op wants to ditch the 4870, this sums it up :)

Quote:
The Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 Toxic is no stranger to high power bills based on the fact that it reaches near the very top our chart for power consumption under load (identical to Palit's 4870 Sonic). Even at idle, the Sonic Dual Edition video card gulps the watts down at a faster pace than the GeForce 9800 GX2. Regardless, the power requirements for the Radeon HD 4870 consist of two six-pin PCI-Express power connections to ensure that the RV770 receives enough juice to push out the frames in 3D mode. This may leave some middle-market enthusiasts and lower-end gamers in search of a new power supply force feed the Radeon HD 4870 the power it needs.

Most enthusiasts make the mistake of associating a smaller die process with an improved power efficiency. Clearly, the downside to the 55 nm RV770 GPU is it's lack of energy efficient operation. The power consumption measured under full load doesn't match the performance, but it certainly matched heat output. The idle power draw is extremely high, which is uncommon since emphasis is usually placed on idle/standby mode efficiency and conservation.

If I had said they were exactly the same then I would understand your whining but I didn't I said they were about the same and the hierarchy charts seem to agree with me as it's only one tier up. So different cards yes, a big difference/upgrade/a lot better, no.

I'm pretty sure when the 4870 was reviewed they said it was slightly faster than a GTX 260, whatever happened?

Ok man, Just pointing out that the HD4870 is faster than a 8800GTS and not "about the same"

So we differ in our interpretations of "about the same" but as far as I'm concerned they are and shall remain "about the same". :D
