Motherboard upgrade

I have a HP motherboard and I recently put a new gtx 480 in my system and didn't see that much improvement over my gts 250. My cpu is a amd phenom x4 945 and cannot be overclocked past 3.0GHz due to the HP bios being locked. Is this motherboard bottlenecking my system?

Not really. You'd have to change operating systems with a non hp board; not worth it just to overclock. Next time build your own.
