How do i connect HDS721616PLA380
hard drive to an akasa external hard drive the ribbon cable i have doesn't fit any more?

By ribbon cable hope you mean the old IDE cables?

Since you have not made the effort to post in the details of the HDD, i googled for the model no. and found that the HDD to be SATA. And it does not have IDE cable slots. SATA cables are quite different.

anymore ? If it is a sata as stated above, it just can't ever have fitted that external enclosure, it's not like IDE changed his mind and went to sata by itself xD

Sorry for the lack of info

i had an old hitachi HDD in an akasa box my toddler knocked it over and it died.

so i bought a new HDD thinking it would just connect the same way but it doesn't.

i am not very technical as you may have gathered and don't wish to sound rude.

The new hard drive use the new interface called Sata 2.
Your old akasa box is made for IDE.
You need a new External Hard Drive Enclosure to make it work as before.
