Its inexpensive now, why not get the Phenom II X3 720? Its 99 most everywhere, same price as the X2 555. It is OEM version, so you do have to add a fan, for a minor price difference. All prices below include shipping:

    Phenom II X3 $98.90

    Cooler Master fan. $12.98

    Gigabyte GA-MA770T Motherboard: $74.99

    G.Skill 4 GB DDR3 RAM Dual Channel, 9-9-9-24 Latency. $81.99

    Samsung 1TB Harddrive: $54.34

    Rosewill Challenger case $39.99
I really like the looks and price of this case. It comes with 3 fans with space for 2 more 120mm mounts.

    2 extra 120mm Blue LED fans: $13.98

(Its actually a 4-pack, but its cheaper than 2 individual led fans after shipping -- you just have some spares)

    Sapphire ATI HD5770 $149.99 ($134.99 after rebate)

    Seasonic 500 W power supply, 80+ Bronze certified: $69.19

a quick check of http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine states 324w at 90% TDP and peak power. pushing it to 100% with 20% capacitor aging put it at 415W. 500W should be adequate for years or wear, and gives you a little room if you unlock the 4th core, do some minor overclocking, or upgrade the video card later

    $596.35
  2. oh, I forgot a DVD burner. thats $18-20. So make it this one, $19.98:

that ups the pre-rebate total to $616.34
