Hey all, I've recently made some upgrades to my Acer Aspire M1610 system (http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireM1610/AspireM1610sp2.shtml) which uses this motherboard (Acer F672CR) and the E2140 - 1.6 Ghz - Intel Core Duo Processor (which isn't possible to overclock on the stock motherboard afaik :().

Adding the Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6790 1GB in an attempt to upgrade performance seems to have been an oversight, as (as far as I can tell from research) my current processor isn't powerful enough to use even 10-15% of this GPU's potential (GPU load is very low within GPU-Z while gaming, and still FPS is low also).

From what I've read, due to the limitations of this board the best processor I could upgrade to would be (http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=34441) E4700 - 2.6Ghz - Intel Core2Duo Processor. Is this correct? Would you recommend doing this? I don't have a huge budget as I just blew most of it on a PSU and GPU. As far as I can tell it's a pretty expensive processor as it's no longer manufactured, is it worth it? Would it mean I can get the maximum out of my GPU card, or will I still be "bottlenecked", if that's what the problem is with my poor performance.

If this isn't a good option in your opinions, would you recommend getting a whole new MB + CPU combo? If so, which would be good for my system setup (including this 2x2GB DDR2-667 PC2-5300 RAM (http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=Aspire%20M1600&Cat=RAM), and be able to run my GPU fairly well, while still being budget (< 100 euros preferably)

I don't have a lot of experience when it comes to building PCs so any accurate help would be appreciated. I've read a lot of false information but I think most of what I've written is accurate, and feel free to correct me and give me advice if I have stumbled upon the wrong path. Thanks!

I also read somewhere that with a bios update (not sure which, or where to get that) the motherboard would work with the Intel C2D 6xxx series but their FSB would be capped at 800Mhz? How much of an impact would this have?

Or maybe even the 7xxx and 8xxx would work, though these use 45nm, if this matters. I'm not too sure on compatibility but I know that purchasing one of these would probably be cheaper than a MB+CPU combo. Any help appreciated :)
