I am thinking about getting an AM3+ compatible board but I am on a tight buget, so I was wandering what's the difference between the new 9xx boards vs the cheaper 8xx boards that support AM3+. From what i've read there's nothing really new in 9xx boards, just some minor updates and it's a rebrand to show that it supports AM3+. I don't want to get an older board that supports the new cpu's but hinders it's performance in some way.

8xx is fine. If it has the black socket it's just as good CPU wise. The difference is in the number of PCIex16 lanes and stuff.
