I am looking to hook my Xbox up to a Benq G2420hd monitor using a xbox to vga adapter. For the sound i will get an RCA to 3.55mm adapter

Is there a way to get the sound through speakers without using my pc desktop?. I was thinking i could connect the adapter 3.5mm out to the headphone jack in the speakers and power the speakers through a usb port on the Xbox. Does anyone know if this would work? If not is there anyway to have the sound not need to go through the Xbox?
