This is my first ever attempt at a system build. I am a non-gamer, and most concerned about the compatibility of the components and what is adequate and what is overkill.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: (within a month)

BUDGET RANGE: ($1000-$1500) After Rebates

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: (Multitasking, MS Office Pro, surfing the internet, Photoshop, Video editing, streaming videos, watching movies)

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: (Keyboard, mouse, speakers,)

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: (Newegg, and open to other suggestions)

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: (USA)

PARTS PREFERENCES: (Intel Core i7930, mid or full tower case)

OVERCLOCKING: No

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No / Maybe ?

MONITOR RESOLUTION: (not sure)

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: (prefer an IPS monitor, one 24" or two smaller); (prefer mobo support for SATA 6, and USB 3.0.); (prefer modular type PSU). Confused on GPU requirements since I am a non-gamer.

PARTS ALREADY SELECTED:

Intel specific and NO AMD ? http://www.anandtech.com/show/3674/amds-sixcore-phenom-...

As for the build...

Mobo -
ASUS Ramapage III Gene - Very stable board

Or Gigabyte UD3R

CASE - Any specific reason for that case ? You wont be going SLI/ Crossfire and will not overclock so unlikely go watercooling, then that case is not worth it IMO...
If you want a similar looking case, then the HAF 922 would be a good option...

If you will be using AfterEffects and PremierePro majorly, then get the Nvidia cards as those take advantage of CUDA...

gkay09,

Thanks for the insight, and apologies for the long delay in responding. I've been recovering from a recent surgery that has slowed me down the last few weeks. Anyway...

I think I'll go with the GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R rec. That was my major concern. And I think you're right about going with the HAF 922 case.

However, I am thinking I should go a little higher on the PSU, maybe 750W in anticipation of future upgrades... additional HDDs/ODDs, etc.

I neglected to mention in my original post that I will be going with one WD Caviar Black (1-Tb), and hopefully one SSD if I can handle it. Any recs on the SSD? They still seem to be ridiculously expensive! What capacity SSD would be adequate for handling the OS plus say MS Office and Photoshop apps?

Thanks again...
