I3-530 and 6870, bottleneck?

Hi, I am about to buy an AMD 6870 graphics card to replace my 5770.

My i3-530 is slightly overclocked to 3.31ghz (stock cooling).

Would I see a huge performance increase by swapping my cpu out for an i5-750 or something faster? Or will the i3-530 handle the single gpu 6870 just fine? I don't plan on crossfiring ever.

Only using 1600x900 resolution.

Oh, and I mostly just play World of warcraft, battlefield bad company 2, starcraft 2, and MW2; but I like my video settings maxed out.

More about 6870 bottleneck
  1. Bad Company 2 will be the only game that would significantly benefit from more than 2 cores on that list. And that is only because the game is pretty CPU bound.

For most other games (even multi-core games) the i3 is plenty for a 6870.

You can probably squeeze more out of that CPU on stock voltage/cooling (if you haven't tried).

Are you unhappy with your performance somewhere? You have a pretty strong setup.

Replacing my 5770 with the 6870 because my FPS seems to lack at high end settings in BC2. Its playable, but not as fluid as I would like.

Also since the i3 has 4 threads shouldn't BC2 perform pretty well on it?

Yes, the upgrade to the 6870 will definitely give you a noticable performance boost.
