AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE vs intel i5 760

Hello, i'm in need of some advice from the pros.
i'm getting an upgrade for my system, but due to the limited budget i gotta choice between these two :

AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE + MSI HD 5770 Hawk

or

i5 760 + MSI 450 GTS Cyclone

i'd mostly be using this for gaming and maybe a little video editing.
thank so much to anyone who helps newcomer like myself..

  1. Why not the i5 760 and the HD5770? It would be better combo. Are there any budget restrictions?
  2. thanks for the quick reply
yes there is, because of the mainboard for each option is differ in price..
for the AMD i'm planning to use MSI 870A-G54 and for intel is the MSI p55 - g55
  3. If you can go for the above one i mentioned, it would be good. What's your total budget and what are the parts that you plan to buy?
  4. it's about $600
and i'm targeting for patriot 1333 MHZ 2x2 kit (1.65V) for both option
    that's it. nothing else.
  5. If its mainly gaming I would go for an Athlon x 3 and spend the money saved to get a 460 or a 6850

would there be no bottleneck ?
    maybe i can afford that..
    thanks for the thought.

with the 450 and the i5 760 the card (450) will be a big bottle neck and you would only be able to play game on low - medium settings with the 965 and the 5770 there is some balance but the card will still be the main bottle neck you should be able to play games on medium-high settings at 1080. With an Athlon x 3 and a 460 or 6850 you should be able to play most games with the settings maxed out at 1080, the processor will be a small bottleneck on games that can use more than 3 cores or at lower resolutions but a cheap tx3 or 212+ cooler and an overclock to 3.6GHz ish should sort that out. In my opinion for purely gaming the Athlon will be the best balanced system.
  8. Just get this as far as RAM+GPU+CPU+MOBO:

Price would be $550 for all of that. You can get slightly better RAM and Video card if you wait for things to get in stock.
  9. How much would a HD6850 , i5 760, a good P55 board and the RAM's that ares1214 mentioned cost? I think that would be the best option that you can get i5 760 is better processor than the 965 and the 955.

Please mention the monitor that you have now.

The 760 is only better if he is big on overclocking. Otherwise, due mainly to the higher clock speed, the 955 is plenty good, and more importantly a lot cheaper. i5 760+mobo would likely be around $100 more.
  11. Lets see if the OP is into overclocking!! :)
