Recovering Data Off Formated HDD

My friend recently got a new SSD and he was going to install Windows on it. When he went to format the SSD he accidentally formated his 2TB HDD full of all his stuff and obviously he wants to know if there is any way to get it back. Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
