Would a Phenom 8400 be a viable upgrade?

I currently haz an aging Pentium D 935, would a Phenom 8400 be a +15% upgrade? I've also noticed that the Phenom 8400 has less L2 cache than The Penium D, why is that?

I know, I am getting a new computer practically free. I just wonder if the 8400 is an upgrade or not?,
New Computer=2GB RAM, Phenom 8400, 500WATT PSU9600GSO,and the rest.
Old one=1 GB RAM, Pentium D 935, Radeon X1550
