How to go about add/del a old hdd with an OS into a new computer?

I'll be building my first gaming rig very soon, and I was wondering how I would go about adding my old harddrive to my new system.
Specifically, the new system will have OS installed on a new harddrive. How do I add the old hdd and delete the OS/crap on it to basically be storage for crap.

when you build your pc and it boots up with no problem you will want to insert the windows disk, frmo that you will go to boot options and boot from the cd, once you boot from the cd windows will give you an option to do advanced install, that will show you available local hard drives and in there it gives you an option to format the hard drive and delete partitions before installing os

Install your new OS on your new HDD without the old HDD attached to the computer. Once the new OS is running you can attach the old HDD and reformat it from within Windows Disk Manager. BTW, HDDs do NOT last forever. Depending upon it's age you may want to replace it.
