I7-2600K + ? Motherboard

Don't get an Intel MOBO; great CPUs but lousy MOBOs.

A 'Workstation' if Intel uses a Xeon CPU, ECC RAM, and Pro GPU. Otherwise for a pseudo WS look at the ASUS P8P67 WS Revolution -> http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8P67_WS_Revolution/

Q - How much RAM?
Q - What GPU(s)?

That's why i mentioned INTEL :) I knew everyone here will suggest some other board. As I've never used Mobo other than intel so can't say what it lacks but i think this time i must listen to you guys & see what extra they hold. OK....

RAM : 16-24 GB

GPU : Any mid range card upto $100 or may be Quadro fx 1800?

Well the LGA 1155 supports 4-DIMM slots period. 4x4GB is the only cost effective approach, the 8GB density sticks are absurdly more expensive for non-ECC and registered ECC 8GB is still outrageous.

So it comes back to - will 16GB work? If you need more then you're looking at a single or dual LGA 1366 MOBO with a minimum of 6-DIMM slots and A LOT more with the Dual LGA 1366 {Xeon only} MOBOs.

Cinema 4D - as I recall on that App CPU + RAM for rendering.
After Effects - ditto
The 'time' {GPU} is for screen rendering.

What if i want to go for 24gb ram with i7-2600K. I'm unable to find single 8GB non-ecc Sticks. Xeons are very expensive, even if i go for Xeon i cannot afford more than single X5660 & still it'll be slower than i7-980x. Pls help

I knew all of this as soon as you posted, it's a process. Yes, there's 8GB/stick non-ECC but the cost difference makes up for an LGA 1366 Xeon(s), and the Samsung's and ADATA per stick cost close to a Xeon; $500+/8GB stick.

Rendering ain't cheap ;)

Suggestions:
LGA 1366 consumer {6x4GB 24GB} or dual server {18x4GB 72GB or 18x8GB 144GB registered ECC}.

6x4GB is $420 and each 3x8GB kit is $800, and you can get 16GB stick 3x16GB is $1900

Also you can wait for the LGA 2011 + SB-E coming 'sometime' in November.

I do major SQL/PHP, do you think I like throwing $10,000+ per server and some of them a lot more?!
