WD External HD should I format first?

I purchased my second Western Digital 3tb HD. It comes set up for NTSC and I'm on a windows 7 machine... but should I run the windows formatting before I use the drive? I assume that will delete the software that came with the drive?

    NTFS?
If you mean NTFS, that's file.
It's the native file system for Windows 7.

You should only need to format it if you want to use it on a different (usually older) OS.

Formatting it will delete most software, although some drives software installed that survives formatting.

In short, you shouldn't need to format it.
