I hava a seagate 500 gig external hard drive and the usb connector broke off the board it was a flimsy connection and I generally had the cable always connected to the hard drive because of this It stopped reading the last time I went to back up stuff and I sent it to a friend who is an IT guy he set the hd on it's side instead of flat and tat worked I got all the stuff off the drive before the connector broke at least I can get a replacement connector from a electronic catalog but it will be a pain to solder this new connector to the board

Simply buy an empty enclosure and put the disk in. That's way cheaper.
