Excuse the stupid question. Please help!

I know this may cause some extreme facepalming, but I'm still confused as to what drive I would install an OS on, like Windows 7. Does it matter if it's a burner or what? What exactly do I need?

Since Vista, Windows disks have been DVDs (XP was the last version that fit on a CD). You'll need any drive that can read that DVD, whether it can burn or not.
