Attach HD to DSL modem?

I would like to have some network storage capacity. I have an external hard drive (HD from here on), but I can't attach it to my wireless router since the router only has ethernet ports and the HD only has USB and firewire ports. However my DSL modem has a USB port. I assume that the USB port on the modem is an alternative way of hooking a computer or router to the modem, but I am wondering whether if I connected my HD to it, the HD would be recognised. Any thoughts, anyone?

I don't think the USB socket will help you -- though see if you can find a full manual for the modem.

I suspect you should use the ethernet ports anyway for reliability -- wireless is not reliable.
