Why run single channel when having the option running DUAL CHANNEL?
Because on average single- to dual-channel will gain a 5% performance boost.
Simply increasing the IMC/NB from stock 2000MHz to 2400MHz (either with the multiplier or raising the clock to 240MHz) will increase bandwidth 6-8% and reduce latency 6-8%.
6-8% > 5%.
2400MHz on the IMC/NB is as close to a 'slam-dunk' as you can get. 'Enthusiasts' are now clocking PhII IMC/NBs above 3000MHz.
If it's that big a deal he can simply run 4x2GB in dual-channel BUT I've not seen any evidence that 8GB of system RAMs provides some magical huge leap in performance over 6Gb of system RAMs. If someone has some evidence, I'd like to see it.
Otherwise, those funds can be better invested to improve system performance --- a nice SSD or perhaps, a Spinpoint F3 RAID for his scratch/work drives. That would be
nice.
