  1. An IDE-to-SATA adapter is for internal use on a desktop PC to enable the fitting of an IDE hard drive to a SATA port.

    What you need is a ready-to-use portable external hard drive which just plugs in to any USB port.
    Or if you already have a spare hard drive, buy an empty hard drive enclosure and put the drive inside it. That also plugs in to a spare USB port.

    Something like this would be a good device to use for a laptop and can connect to a usb 3.0 port. All you would need is an enclosure to put the hard drive in.
