I have a WD essesntials USB 3.0 500Gb external HD

A asus p7p55d-e MOBO

Copying (from an internal WD 6400) 60Gb music about 40 mins @ a derisory 28MB/s

(I am connected to one of the two blue USB 3.0 ports on the MOBO)

Any reason for it being so slow? Seems around the USB 2.0 speed no?

Aaargghhhh!

Here's my device man: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B2CUlXNZCeTHYktHUDM1ck...

Interestingly? When I copied films, its started quite high> 80MB/s, then dropped to a steady 43MB/s

Your WD essesntials USB 3.0 500Gb is a 5400rpm 2.5" drive. What speeds were you expecting?

USB3 is just the interface, it cannot and will not speed up any device beyond its capability.

My Seagate USB3 backup drive gives me 100MB/s. Its 5.25" 7200rpm.

I'm sorry to say but this is just a failure of you to research the product before you bought it.
