The rise in temperature caused by the computers and the posture
required can affect sperm levels.

Researchers from the State University of New York said men should be
careful using the machines on their laps.

Previous studies have shown that testicular temperature increases of 1C
to 2.9C have a harmful effect on the production of sperm.

Dr Yefim Sheynkin, who led the latest research, said: "The body needs
to maintain a proper testicular temperature for normal sperm
production.

"Portable computers in a laptop position produce scrotal hyperthermia
[high body temperature]." Dr Sheynkin said it was unclear at what heat
the sperm was affected.

"But previous studies suggest that 1C above the baseline is the
possible minimal thermal gradient," he said. "Sperm concentration may
be decreased by 40 per cent per 1C increment."

The research was published yesterday in the journal Human Reproduction.
The team found that average scrotal temperatures rose by 2.7C when
using a laptop.

I'm not sure I see the problem. Seems like cheap, safe contraception to me.
Shame it's not reliable.

Evolution is wonderful.

It's about time the Darwin awards started taking the Information Age
seriously.

What does Darwin say about males that use their portables on the beach,
without proper suncream, btw?
