Hi. I have a slim Dell C521 at the moment and I am looking to do some upgrading for gaming. I am looking for a CPU for this system but don't know what to get as this system has its limitations. I was wondering if AMD Athlon II X2 Dual-Core Processor 260 and its heatsink would work in my case or not as I lack computer knowledge LOL. Thanks

best that unit can do without mods is:
Athlon 64x2 5600+ (2.9ghz) Brisbane 65nm processor
some Windsor class processors will work but those are more power hungry, more heat and older technology.

So according to the link posts you post the +5600 would be ideally better rather than the +6000 which would be too much for the C521( as you said). But are you really sure the +6000 won't work? I know you said it wont LOL but I just want to the best for the PC if you understand. Its not that i doubt you. Thanks again

Oh yea i forgot. I don't know your giving me this advice on the basis of my PC having a 280watt PSU. I have a Omega 600Watt ATX PSU running externally. So, that being said am i still limited to the +5600 which i think is still weak. I use this PC primarily for Flight Simulator 2004 and near future FSX. I also have a 9600Gt card.

So.... Can go with AMD Athlon II X2 Dual-Core Processor 260 then right or no. If yes what about a heatsink will it fit? Thats my only concern. I can't find any heatsink that can fit the c521

ok then, to go higher than what i originally suggested your going to have to change you heatsink/cooler to the cpu. got it.?!
and thermal compound AS5 or better in quality, it's going to gt hot in that case.
update the BIOS to 1.1.11 first before anything...
to max is out here are your options you have enough power so here's the limits:
top of the line Windsor class:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+

top Brisbane class:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
http://www.cpu-data.info/index.php?grp=ADV6000IAA5DO&gr...

that's the two options you got.
have at it..
