Difference between Antec 300 and Antec 300 Illusion?

I was about to order the Antec 300 at newegg when I noticed a side ad for Antec 300 Illusion, I am wondering if you guys know the difference between them.

On the official Antec website I found that the original 300 is heaver (~2.5kgs) but the illusion has 2 extra fans and can accommodate a longer GPU card, inspite of the lesser weight.

I'd appreciate if any one in the know can help. Especially whose used both.

Thanks!

its the exact same case. the illusion comes with 2 x 120mm in the front. if you already have fans, plan to purchase specific fans, or just don't want any extra fans; get the antec 300. if you want to add fans up front and are fine with the antec tri-speed LED fans (they are fine fans) get the illusion.

What sucks is that the plain 300 used to come with an additional 120mm compared to what it comes with now. Not sure why Antec pulled the extra fan.

Nope. When I bought mine two years ago it came with 1 x 140mm and 2x120mm. The 2nd 120mm didn't come installed, but it was included.

nice but probably a factory mistake

every review from 2008's launch lists the case shipping with two fans (140mm and 120mm)

I decided to look into it a bit more and actually a few of the reviews that I read from initial launch said that the cases shipped with an extra 120mm Tricool because some of the installed Tricools had a defect that prevented them from working properly on the "low" setting. So the extra fan was, technically, in case the original was bad.

Now I'm going to throw some props to Antec for this little inclusion. Inside was a note stating that some problems were found post production in some 120mm Tri-Cool fans. Instead of going through and testing all the fans, they included an extra fan in case one of the affected fans was installed in the case. Very cool to address an issue up front instead of making the consumer go through the hassle on the back end of the deal.

No matter how you want to look at it, it's a great little case and I have few complaints about it. It has plenty of room, though you may have trouble with a long card like the 5970, and great cooling capabilities. My only complaint is cable management, but what do you expect from such a good price?

Thanks for the info guys.

How about the Coolermaster HAF 912, how dyou feel that compares to the Antec?

The cooling capability of the 912 should about right on par with the Antec 300, if not better if you install some of the optional fans. Plus, you get some nice cable management features that the Antec 300 lacks, such as room behind the motherboard to hide cables and install a CPU cooler and a removable HDD cage. I believe the HAF 912 has more room inside as well for larger components.
