Did I install my heatsink correctly?

Good morning everyone,

Last night I started my build :D I'm very happy with everything I've got but I was looking inside and I noticed I can see a tiny bit of each edge of the processor, is this a problem or am I just being paranoid?

I'm using a Coolermaster hyper 212 - It was a pain up the arse to get on so I think it could be in the wrong position. I'll provide pictures when I get home from work but it's only a very small part of the processor on show. Good or bad?

*Edit* Pictures added below!

It's an ASUS M4A88TD-V Evo/usb3 if I remember correctly. It might be that I need to move the fan round I've currently got it so the Fan is almost pressed up against the ram and blowing air towards the rear exhaust.

I used about a penny sized about of thermal paste and spread it all over in a thin layer with a credit card by the way in case this would make a difference.

Sounds like way too much paste imo,
I'd leave the orientation as it is, blowing towards the rear fan is usually a best option,
Remove the 212, clean the paste off it and the chip, careful not to get any on the mobo, then reseat it using a tiny, tiny blob, spread it over the chip, it really is a miniscule amount but make sure it covers the whole top of the chip, it should be just about see-through,. I'm off to bed now (Nightwalker) but I'll check back later ok :)

I'll have photos up at some point later today, I works and didn't overheat on a windows 7 install.. Had to take everything out after though (was borrowing a PSU from my old PC - Still need to buy it!)

I know, not gonna rush the PSU for this build.

Oh and for the thermal paste, it seems like I added a massive amount but I used a card to thin the layer out. Ended up with more on the edges of the card than on the processor by the end of it! I'll be back from work in about 2 hours so I'll take a photo of what I mean then and post it up here.

Alright guys, just took the pictures! Upon viewing them, my god I'm a shoddy workman. Guess I'm not too good at the ol' cotton bud - rubbing alcohol cleaning!

I've lost my old PSU for my current pc so got to wait a week to buy my new PSU :( a week with this PC just sitting on the floor is so painful.

Sorry for the shoddy quality on a few of them, flash + shiny parts in a close space never has a good outcome. You can see what I mean though, the two sides are pretty much not covered by the HS.

Running an install of win7 now, it's taking bloody ages to load the files before the installation options though. If it reboots unexpectedly at least I know I messed up with the HS!

It's so badly jury rigged though, got my other pc opened and the motherboard power stretched into the new one, with a HDD and dvd drive sitting on the table. Such a mess!

Well.. It's all sorted! Other than the fact I'm not bothering to get all the drivers installed (this is only a test run!) it looks like it'll be a fantastic bit of kit when it's finished. Pleased with the Phenom II 955!
