90 dollars more?? You can get the Sapphire 5850 for 279.99$ shipped or even cheaper with Bing Cash Back.. You must be looking at the high end 5850's ;)

GTX 460 1GB overclocked is as good if not better than the HD 5850. GTX 460 SLi performs as good as an HD 5970 and overclocked much better. GTX 460 >>>

IMO the ATI 5000 series are getting obsolete.

And yet an overclocked 5850 will destroy an overclocked 460.

Anyway, the GTX 460 is a very good card, given that it's cheaper, it's a little bit better bang for you buck. However, purely from performance the 5850 has more horsepower.

Also, take his "veteran" title with a grain of salt. This user is always trolling the forums with crappy information just to get points.

the 5850 is better as mentioned above, its a compeditor to the gtx 470 while the gtx 460 is a compeditor to the 5830, if you're chosing between the two then go for the 5850, its a bit faster, the gtx 460 has better drivers and 3d vision and physx and all the great stuff from nvidia which the 5850 doesn't.

okini55 is hilarious - just a few months ago, he was on a rant about how much Nvidia sucks. A few months before that, he was ranting about how much ATI sucks and team green was the best.

To the OP,
the 5850 is about 10% or so better, but the GTX460 1GB is about $40 cheaper.

Better drivers...?
So, after some time...GTX 460 could be much faster than now, right?
(All of the tests we have seen is using initial drivers from it)

My point is that GTX 460 still has more potential ahead.

no, drivers normally fix issues with certain games and crashes, FPS gains are normally minimal.

I think the driver argument is a bit self defeating, if NV has better drivers now, then they can only improve a little. Whereas if ATI drivers aren't as good, then there's a lot of room for improvement... right? So, if you're betting on a card "getting better" it would be the ATI card.

Anyway, drivers are fine for both companies, but it does seem NV has a bit better SLI scaling which is driver related. Although, CF does well anyway.

Nvidia doesn't dominate. They did, yes. But ATI beat them to the punch with the 5xxx series and Nvidia had to play catch up. Now NV has some good cards out, the 470 and 480 are very good but also not near as efficient as ATI cards, which tells me they're probably not as well designed, although it could be other things. The GTX 460 tho is a fantastic card, NV really came out with a good fermi finally but we're on the cusp of seeing ATI's next series of cards (possibly the 6xxx series) so by the winter holidays we'll see just which company is in the lead.

The GTX 460 1GB is $60+ cheaper than the 5850, while being only ~10% slower than it in current titles, but faster with extreme tessellation. The 5850's slight lead isn't worth the extra price over the GTX 460 1GB.
