Nvidia GPU and AMD Motherboard Compatibility

Hi, I have an MSI Motherboard with an AMD chipset and an AMD CPU, can I use an Nvidia GeForce 7900GS 256MB graphics card with it? I'm hoping for a temporary solution since my replacement Radeon HD 5750 1GB is crashing my computer with a "Hyper Trasnport sync-flood" error. (More on that here)

Specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 440
MB: MSI 785GM-E51
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64
PSU: 550W
RAM: 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 G.Skill Ripjaws

Thanks =)

  1. It should work fine. AMD don't block the use of NVidia cards, and vice versa.
  2. The only issue might be driver support for such an old card. Seems like you're getting a rather strange error there though O_o
  3. Theoretically, it should work fine, however I've often wondered if both manufacturers might have some subtle firmware or driver features to make their competitors hardware look bad.
  4. I put the card in today, so far it seems to be holding up. I'll post back if anything strange happens.

    Thanks for the replies =)
  5. hmmm. Looks like another RMA for you. That is an odd error, but it looks like the card is to blame.
